THE WOODLAND TRUST.

Founded in 1972 by Kenneth Watkins(1910 - 1996) in Devon. Chief Executive Jonathan James OBE (1972 - 1997). Succeeded by Mike Townsend (1997-2004) and Sue Holden 2005.
Latest count 1100 woods, 19,000 hectares(50,000 acres) including over 6000 acres of ancient woodland.

A FEW FACTS.

The Trust owns more individual woodland sites open to the public than any other conservation organisation in the UK.
The Trust is second only to the National Trust in terms of woodland in the ownership of voluntary conservation organisations.
The Trust has planted 25% of the total number of trees and acreage of woodland in the National Forest since it was launched in 1990.
The Trust owns 1.74% of the total broadleaved woodland in Britain.
The Trust spends more on land acquisition as a percentage of total expenditure than any other conservation body.
